Who else is dreaming about future travels? After a year-plus of staying close to home due to the dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world seems like it’s slowly opening back up again, to the joy of travellers everywhere.
But the lack of tourists this past year also shed light on how detrimental tourism and human activity can be. People in India finally saw the Himalaya mountain range again. With less boat traffic, the water in the canals of Venice became clearer. A study done in September 2020 found that “the pandemic situation significantly improves air quality in different cities in the world, reduces GHGs emission, lessens water pollution and noise, and reduces the pressure on tourist destinations.”
So how do we keep those benefits while resuming ordinary life? One way is to travel to “green cities,” or cities that are focused on sustainability. Below, explore a map of five of the most green cities in the world to add to your bucket list.
